Nurses: Government to ensure minimum wages

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government would not allow private hospitals to deny minimum wages to nurses and para-medical staff, Labour Minister Shibu Baby John told the Assembly on Monday.

  The government will also explore the possibility of enacting a fresh piece of legislation in this regard, he said in reply to a submission made by Hibi Eden.

Over the past few weeks, labour officials inspected 705 hospitals and only a handful provided minimum wages to its staff, the Minister said.

Cops on Trains

Electricity Minister Aryadan Mohammed, who holds the Railways portfolio, said that 60 police personnel including 56 policewomen had been deployed in trains to ensure the safety of women travellers.

He was replying to a submission by CPM’s Aisha Potty.
