THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Shashi Tharoor MP inaugurated the Automated multi-level modular automobile parking (AMMAP) system in Technopark on Thursday. Dr M S Valiyathan presided over the function. The entire system was later put up for demo on Technopark campus.

The project has been initiated as part of the Technopreneur Promotion Programme (TePP), where Technopark promotes individual innovators through a support mechanism. Joy Abraham and his son Aubin Joe are the developers of the system.

At the demo, a moving cradle mounted on a central shaft carried a blue Santro car into the slot.

The automated storage and retrieval of the automobiles within a stipulated time is controlled from a central computer. The demonstration was witnessed by the gathering, which included P J Kurian, MP; former Union Minister O Rajagopal; Joseph K Alexander, chairman, Kerala region of Indian Institute of Public Administration; and K C Chandrashekharan Nair, CFO, Technopark.

According to Joy Abraham, a part of the system can even be used for commercial space. A number of organisations have approached Joy for discussions on operating AMMAPS.
