THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police had intensified search for the suspect of a murder case in which a middle-aged woman was killed.

Nirmala, 57, of Darshan Nagar, Kudappanakkunnu, a retired government employee, was killed allegedly by her husband Mohandas, who has been absconding after the incident which occurred around 9.30 p.m. on Sunday.  The police said that Mohandas, a returnee from the Gulf, was a drunkard and he frequently engaged in quarrel with Nirmala by asking money for drinking. “A similar altercation happened on Sunday night also and it is suspected that Mohandas hit Nirmala on her head and she bled to death,” said Peroorkkada C I Jayachandran.

It was Mohandas who informed his sons, Krishna Prasad and Vishnudas, who are engineering students in Kochi, about the incident. Vishnudas informed Peroorkkada police but Mohandas fled from the spot before the police arrived. Nirmala’s body is kept in the Medical College Hospital mortuary.
