THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ‘Mudra’, a documentary recording the  history of Neyyattinkara, is born out of the realisation that few people are genuinely aware about the story of the place they live in.  ‘Mudra’ begins with the story of human settlements in what is today Neyyattinkara from as far back as 5,000 years, from Pandavanpara. ‘’The literary history begins from 1500 AD, from the time of the Kovalam Kavikal,’’ says Radhakrishnan Koovalasseri, the school teacher who directed the documentary for the Information and Public Relations Department with help of a few colleagues and students.

Transport and Devaswom Minister V S Sivakumar will release the documentary at Madhavi Mandiram, Oorootukala, Neyyattinkara, at 3 pm on Wednesday. District Education Officer, Neyyattinkara, Valsaladas, said that all available information has been included in the 75-minute documentary.

‘’Each bit of information in this documentary acts as an indicator for students genuinely interested in history,’’ he said in a statement.

The team scoured textbooks and archives and spoke to countless people before embarking on the project, Koovalasseri said.

The script is by Koovalasseri and Dr Joy Balan Vlathankara. Art direction is by Vineesh Parassuvaickal. Biju Karakkonam is the co-director.
