THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It may be seem funny to others. But not for the residents of Kannammoola. At least some of them are panicky over the ‘Black Man.’ Don’t ask who this guy is, because, till now, no one has clearly seen such a person about whom rumours have been spreading like wildfire over the past one week in the Kannammoola area. No one is sure whether he really exits, and the description about him varies from man to man.
Some people of Kannammoola had complained to the police that a dark-complexioned person had been roaming near their homes for the past one week who, with his dreadful looks and gestures, frightened them. They also said that they had even lost sleep over the very thought of him.
“Some felt that he was roaming near homes, while others complained that they noticed him on the road at odd hours with a horrible look, which made them panicky,” said the Medical College police.
What else? The police even caught two persons who matched the descriptions the people gave about the ‘Black Man.’ But immediately after taking them into custody, the police realised that they were innocent people who were even unable to run.
However, unlike the ‘Black Men’ of the past who were primitive in appearance, the new one is supposedly a modern guy. “Some residents of Kannammoola said that they saw a person during the odd hours clad in jeans and a T-shirt, wearing stud on one ear. But how could they notice the stud in the darkness?” the police asked.
Anyhow, the police, leaving nothing to chance, strengthened their patrolling in the area and have reached the conclusion that there was nothing mysterious or dangerous. ‘’It is not the first time that such rumours are spreading. In the past also, similar rumours were reported from many places, which did not last long,’’ the police said.
