The 15th Sree Chithira Thirunal Memorial All-Kerala Inter-school Sports Fest 2012, hosted by Christ Nagar group of schools, came to a close on Thursday. The three-day sports meet saw school teams from different parts of the state battle it out on the football field and basketball court.

Sixteen schools participated in the football tournament, where GV Raja Sports School emerged victorious after beating Sri Ayyankali Memorial Govt Model Residential School, Vellayani, 2-1 in the final on Wednesday.

The basketball final between St Joseph’s Higher Secondary School, Thiruvananthapuram and St  Ephrem’s HSS, Mannanam, which was scheduled for Thursday, was called off following rain.

The two teams will share the trophy between them for the next year. Nineteen teams had taken part in the basketball tournament.

William Johnson of St  Ephrem’s was adjudged the ‘outstanding player’ in basketball, while the title in football went to Rahul R of GV Raja School.

A sports quiz was held as part of the fest, where Christ Nagar Senior Secondary School, Thiruvananthapuram came  first, while Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Kunnumpuram, was the runner-up.

Girls also got to display their dribbling skills in a show-match between the girls basketball teams from Carmel Girls HSS and Nirmala Bhavan HSS, Thiruvananthapuram, where the former triumphed.

The trophies and prizes were distributed by K M George, Deputy Commandant, Security Officer, Raj Bhavan, at a function held at Christ Nagar School, Kowdiar.
