The Sainik Schools have invited applications for admission to classes 6 and 9 for the academic year beginning in June 2013.
Boys born between July 2, 2002 and July 1, 2003 are eligible for admission to class 6 while for class 9, applicants must be born between July 2, 1999 and July 1, 2000 and studying in class VIII in a recognised school.
A total of 90 seats are available - 80 in class six and 10 in class nine. The admission will be based on an entrance test to be held on January 6, 2013 at various centres - Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Wayanad, Sainik School Kazhakootam and Kavaratti at Lakshadweep (subject to sufficient number of candidates).
The boys who qualify in the written test will be required to appear at a later date before a Selection Board for an Interview & Medical Test. The interview and medical test will be held at selected places after announcement of the results of the written test. The admissions will be made strictly in accordance with the merit in the entrance examination, interview and medical fitness of candidates.
As per current policy, 25 per cent of seats are reserved for sons of Defence and Ex-service personnel, 15 per cent for SC and 7.5 per cent for ST.
Different types of scholarships are given by Central/State Governments depending on the parents’ monthly income. Full merit scholarship can be awarded to boys who score first 3 ranks in the All India Entrance Examination irrespective of the parents income.
The prospectus, application form and previous years’ question papers can be obtained by post from the Sainik School Kazhakkootam, on receipt of a request letter and a Demand Draft drawn in favour of the Principal, Sainik School payable at Trivandrum. The applicant’s name, address with telephone number, category and the class applied for, and date of birth should be clearly mentioned in the request letter. The application form can also be purchased directly from the school office or downloaded from the website ‘www.sainikschooltvm.org’, which can be viewed for further details.
The last date of issue of application form and prospectus is December 3 and the last date for receipt of filled in application is December 10.
