Drishti: Theme is ‘frugal innovation’

“Innovation necessitates identifying the scope of a problem. And the things that you learn have to be made applicable in solving that problem,” said former DGP Jacob Punnoose. He was speaking after inaugurating Drishti’12, the techno fest hosted by College of Engineering, Trivandrum, on Friday.

For an innovator, he said, the feeling of satisfaction has nothing to do with intelligence. Citing examples of the discoveries of various physicists in the 19th century, he said, “complacency is a trap that even a very knowledgeable person can fall into. One must work with a mindset that the unknown is larger than the known.” He added that each person has a scope of making his discoveries in a vast horizon and must be willing to experiment.

V Gopakumar, Principal of College of Engineering Trivandrum, who presided over the function, emphasised the role of entrepreneurs and the need for having more job creators than job seekers in today’s world.

The previous edition of the fest was held in 2003. This time, the fest focuses on the theme ‘frugal innovation’ and will have exhibitions and workshops based on it. The fest would come to a close on Sunday.
