A fire broke out in a shed belonging to Indus Motors at Pattom on Thursday noon triggering panic in the city. No major loss was reported as the shed contained only some documents, files and tyres, informed Medical College police. The Fire and Rescue Service immediately rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire in half-an-hour.

As many as nine fire engines belonging to Chenkalchoola, Chackai, Vizhinjam, Kazhakkoottam and Nedumangad stations had rushed to the scene. “We got a call by 12.15 pm. Everything was settled by around 2 pm,” said a Fire and Rescue official attached to the Chenkalchoola station.

Surprisingly, instead of modern cutters, the firemen only had axes and shovels to break open the shed. Lack of proper equipment is a challenge to the efficiency as well as a threat to the safety of firemen.
