The Women and Children’s Hospital at Kottapparamba in Kozhikode has become the second Women and Children’s Hospital in the country to get accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospital & Health Care Providers (NABH).

Announcing this, Health Minister V S Sivakumar said that this was attained through the coordinated effort of the Health department and the National Rural Health Mission. As part of getting accreditation, large-scale development has taken place in the hospital, despite many constraints.

An operation theatre with all modern facilities, neo-natal ward, emergency medicine department, pharmacy, laboratory, scanning unit and new OP rooms have been constructed in the hospital.  The Thycaud Women and Children Hospital was the first women and children’s hospital to get the accreditation last year. The General Hospital at Ernakulam and Chertala Taluk Hospital are the two other hospitals  which had got NABH accreditation.
