Rains: Rs 48 Crore Loss in District

Around 141 houses were completely destroyed and as many as 2,277 houses were partially damaged in the rain

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thiruvananthapuram district suffered a total loss of Rs 48.27 crore in the torrential rains which lashed the state in the past couple of days, said District Collector Biju Prabhakar in a statement here on Monday.

Around 141 houses were completely destroyed and as many as 2277 houses were partially damaged in the rain in the district. The damage caused to the houses in the rains is estimated at Rs 19.56 crore. While the crop loss in the district is pegged at Rs 17.34 crore, the roads suffered damage to the tune of Rs 11.37 crore in the heavy rains. Three deaths have also been reported in the district in the rains, the statement added. Around 66 flood relief camps were opened in the district. As many as 4169 families, consisting of a total of 17,126 persons, were shifted to these camps.

With the rain started showing symptoms of weakening, around 30 per cent of the people have already left the camp, the District Collector said.
