Fans Association Chief Held for Thefts

A serial thief who is also the president of a Malayalam superstar’s fans association was nabbed by the Karamana Police and the shadow team of the City Police.The arrested has been identified as Raj Babu, alias Binu, 44, of Avanakuzhi.

The police said that Raj Babu carried out around 50 thefts in the city during the past 10 years. The accused used his fans association ID card to escape from the night patrol teams.

The cases against him include stealing gold ornaments and money from the house of Rahul Jain in Sreedevi Nagar, Karamana, gold ornaments from the house of Supriya in Kailas Nagar and Rajappan’s house on Minchin Road, Vazhuthacaud.

The accused was earlier held by the Vizhinjam Police in a theft case in 1993. He used to change his rented house frequently, the police said.

The investigation team led by Fort Assistant Commissioner A C Sreekumar, Thampanoor CI Kamarudeen and Control Room CI Suresh Babu included Sub-Inspectors Mohanan and Sherry, fingerprint experts Arun and Lohi, shadow team members Yasodaran, Arun Sabu, Sreekumar, Saji Sreekanth, Ajith, Ranjith and Pradeep.
