THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The mortal remains of C Mohanachandran, Sports Council former president and Congress leader, were cremated at Murukkumpuzha, near Attingal, on Thursday.
The funeral was held on the house premises in the evening.
Mohanachandran, who was suffering from cancer for a long time, died at the Vellore Christian Medical College.
The body was kept at the Sports Council office here before being taken to his ancestral home.
Sports Council president Padmini Thomas, vice-president M M Abdul Rahiman, secretary Binu George Varghese and LNCPE director G Kishore paid tributes.
Apart from them, a lot of sports persons and representatives of sports associations also paid their last respects.
KPCC president V M Sudheeran, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, Tourism Minister A P Anilkumar, Speaker G Karthikeyan and KPCC general secretary Thampanoor Ravi were among those who had condoled his death.
