We are Against Proposed Waste Treatment Plant

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: This is to express my strong protest against the proposed waste management plant in a thickly populated area in Sasthamangalam. The statement made by the ward councillor that “all residents’ associations of Sasthamangalam were informed” (regarding the setting up of the plant) is wrong.

I also fear that the waste may flow into the Killiyar river, 25 metres away from the site for the plant, where the ‘araat’ function of Sasthamangalam Mahadevar Temple is performed. There are other plots in Sasthamangalam owned by the government and Corporation, which can be utilised for the plant. Even though my friends and I, who live near the proposed plant, don’t have as much political clout and muscle as the councillor, we will fight to the last to see that the plant is not installed here.

I hope the Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation and Minister for Urban Affairs will take a suitable decision.
