Babu Paul said that when Anirudhan was a student of St Joseph school, the headmaster of the school, a British missionary, had to expel him following his active participation in politics. Anirudhan got expelled for his aggressive political stand when he was a student at a college in Palayamkottai.

Babu Paul said political observers had a feeling that Anirudhan was let down by the party in the 1980s when E K Nayanar Ministry came to power. Same was the fate of M V Raghavan. While Raghavan left the party for other reasons, Anirudhan stayed back with the party as a true communist.Taking a jibe at A K Antony, Babu Paul said that if Antony had any special skill in any particular matter, it was his ability to find out reasons for electoral defeats.
