THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Speaker G Karthikeyan has opined that CPM leader K Anirudhan who had been ailing for a long time had been known for his revolutionary fervour and his commitment to the working class people.

Releasing a book ‘Sakhav Anirudhan Orormapusthakam’ by Ashok Kadampad here on Wednesday, the Speaker said that Anirudhan had always been a role model of politicians.

He opined that present day politicians could not work for the people if they are not under media glare. He emphasised on the need for reviving political culture.CPI leader E Chandrasekharan Nair received the copy of the book from Karthikeyan.

Delivering the keynote address, former additional chief secretary D Babu Paul said that Anirudhan had the calibre to take on a stalwart politician such as Pattom Thanu Pillai in an electoral battle which saw the latter scrape through with a margin of just over 1,000 votes.

Babu Paul said that when Anirudhan was a student of St Joseph school, the headmaster of the school, a British missionary, had to expel him following his active participation in politics. Anirudhan got expelled for his aggressive political stand when he was a student at a college in Palayamkottai.

Babu Paul said political observers had a feeling that Anirudhan was let down by the party in the 1980s when E K Nayanar Ministry came to power. Same was the fate of M V Raghavan. While Raghavan left the party for other reasons, Anirudhan stayed back with the party as a true communist.Taking a jibe at A K Antony, Babu Paul said that if Antony had any special skill in any particular matter, it was his ability to find out reasons for electoral defeats.
