School Principal to be Honoured

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Fr George Mathew Karoor, principal, Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Nalanchira, Trivandrum, has become one among five teachers nationwide and the only teacher from the state to have been selected for the ‘National Award to Teachers 2013’, instituted by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The school principal who has been serving as a teacher for 28 years, had received the Best Teacher Award from the Government of Kerala in 2009.

Fr George who has been the principal of St Mary’s HSS, Pattom, for 10 years from 2002 to 2011, has been principal of Sarvodaya since 2012. Fr George Mathew has also been the director, Assisi Atonement Hospital and Nursing School, Kundara. 

President Pranab Mukherjee will give away the award, which carries a certificate of merit, a cash award of `25,000 and a silver medal, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on September 5.

He has also received Lions Club Award for the Best Teacher 2012, Best Motivation Award 2010 by Sneha Sena Magazine, ‘Samoohika Prathibedhatha Puraskaram’ from Nehru Cultural Forum 2011.
