'Twelfth Night' to be Staged in Malayalam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Commemorating the 450th birth anniversary of William Shakespeare, the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts of the University of Kerala will stage a Malayalam adaptation of the English dramatist’s classic comedy ‘Twelfth Night.’

The play will be staged at 6.30 pm on August 27 at the University Senate Hall. It is directed by J Thulaseedhara Kurup of Stage India Performing Arts and Research Centre, Kollam.

Considered one of Shakespeare’s greatest comedies, ‘Twelfth Night’ is about illusion, deception, disguises and extraordinary things that people do in the name of love. It is the only Shakespearean play to have an alternative title: ‘What You Will’. Kurup has worked with renowned film and theatre personalities and brought to life numerous productions besides being associated with the production and direction of a number of documentaries.

The play is a grand production featuring a cast and crew of over 30 persons, the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts said in a release.
