Getting Prepped up for the Nationals

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sagar A P, Nithin S Kumar and Diya are an excited bunch of kids. The students of KV, Pattom recently got qualified for the KV National Athletic Meet to be conducted this year.

While Sagar bagged a gold for walking, Silver for 800 mts running race and Bronze for 1500 mts running race, Nidhin got Silver for walking. Diya clinched the Gold medal for Shotput.

Sagar, a class XII student, has been competing in athletic events for long now. He, along with Nithin, who studies in class X, is thrilled about taking part in the nationals. The duo, along with Diya, a 9th standard student, hopes to bring home accolades from the national meet as well. 

Binu, HoD, physical education department said, “Sagar is a good player and has been into athletics for long compared to the rest. He had earlier competed in a national level competition organised by the Student Games Federation of India. Though he did not bring home any medal, he came sixth in the competition. Diya has got a gold medal in her very first attempt and so I am expecting the three of them to bring back medals from the Nationals.”

The other regional athletic meet medal holders from the school are Anand Shekar, who bagged Silver for Shotput, Anu Vargeese who clinched a Bronze medal for 3000 mts relay and Vidhun who received a Silver for Long Jump.

 Binu adds, “The national level meet will be held at Ahmedabad for girls and New Delhi for boys. It will be held in October. There will be school students participating from around 28 states across the country, with approximately 50 students from each state.”

The school is also celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year. The 50th year celebrations will be inaugurated on September 1.
