KSHRC Order to Make Biogas Plant Mandatory

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The condition to set up biogas plants should be made mandatory while issuing permits for constructing flats, said Kerala State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) Chairman Justice J B Koshy in an order. The order also said that permits should not be given for flats that do not set up biogas plants.

Municipalities should give directives to construct biogas plants in old flats. If there are complaints regarding flats that do not have waste management projects, fresh complaints can be filed.

The order was issued on a complaint filed by Jacob Mannaraprayil Cor-Episcopa regarding throwing out garbage from flats in plastic covers on roads. The order said that municipalities have to collect waste materials, including plastic, and send them for processing.
