Pannian Call to Check Rising Prices

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI state secretary Pannian Ravindran has called on the government to  urgently intervene in the market to check the rising prices of essential items during Onam. He said in a statement that state and central government’s anti-people policies were behind the rise in prices.

The prices of rice, vegetables, provisions  were all rising. Prices of petrol, cooking gas and kerosene were hiked. The Central Government has hiked the freight tariff.

The BJP Government which had assumed  power promising to bring down prices was in fact hiking prices.

He alleged that the PDS system which had been going well in the state had been destroyed by the UDF government. Maveli stores have also been on the decline with many lacking essential commodities.  The government is doing nothing to extend relief to the people during Onam, he said.

Pannian said that the government had made the Onam kit a farce by removing the sugar and such essential items from the kit.
