National Games Evaluation Meeting Held

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A meeting chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at his office here the other day evaluated the progress of construction works for the 35th National Games scheduled to be held in the state from January 31, 2015 to February 14.

The meeting discussed the ongoing disputes with Kerala University regarding the widening of the approach road to the Trivandrum International Stadium coming up at Kariavattom.

The government will issue an order regarding this which will be taken up as an emergency agenda in the University Senate meeting slated to be held on September 2.

Chandy also requested the university to provide support to the road widening works at the Games Village located at Menamkulam.

The meeting also discussed the need to install emergency exits at the Games Village in case of fire or other emergencies as advised by the National Transportation Planning and Research Centre. Issues such as Kazhakoottam rail over-bridge and road development will be placed in the next Cabinet meeting, Chandy said.
