Eenam-Swaralaya Hit-maker Award of the Year Announced

Singer Vijay Yesudas and music director M Jayachandran have bagged the Eenam-Swaralaya hit-maker award of the year.

 They have been selected for the award considering the hits they created in the past five years, Eenam International, a cultural organisation of non-resident Malayalees, chairman C C Thampi and Swaralaya Kerala chapter chairman G Rajmohan told a press meet here on Saturday.  Yesteryear singer Thankam Rachel has been selected for the Suvarna Prathibha award.]

 The awards carry a purse of Rs 50,000, a citation and a statuette.

 A jury consisting of musician K Omanakkutty, music critic Ravi Menon, former Collector N Ayyappan and G Rajmohan selected the awardees.   ‘Ottaykku Padunna Poonkuyile,’ the song of the movie ‘Nadan’ has bagged the song of the year award. Ouseppachan composed the song penned by Madhu Vasudevan and sung by Vaikkom Vijayalekshmi.

 The music director, singer and the lyricist would be presented the award of Rs 50,000, a citation and a statuette each.

The song was selected through online voting from a list of 10 songs prepared by music critics.  The awards, except the one for Thankam Rachel, will be presented in Dubai in May. Singer K J Yesudas will present the award of Thankam Rachel in April.

Actor Suresh Gopi inaugurated the  website of singer Manjari - manjari.co during the press conference.  Suresh Gopi said that he would take the initiative to build a house for Thankam Rachel whose living conditions were miserable.

“At present many of the awards are given for those who are capable of pulling crowds,” the actor said  “Selecting forgotten singers such as Thankam Rachel for the award was an applaudable attempt. It is a shame on Malayalees that artistes like her are struggling to meet both ends. A house would be built for her. Those who support the move are welcome,” the actor said.
