National Science Day will be observed on Friday, with the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) and the Kerala Academy of Sciences (KAS) leading the state-level celebrations. The focal theme for this year is ‘Fostering Scientific Temper’.
Environment Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan will inaugurate the official programme at Sasthra Bhavan here at 10 am.
KSCSTE executive vice-president V N Rajasekharan Pillai will preside over the function. KAS president Oommen V Oommen will deliver a special address.
KSCSTE member-secretary K K Ramachandran, director George Varghese and KAS general secretary K G Ajitkumar will speak.
The inaugural session will be followed by National Science Day lectures by IISER ( Indian Institute of Science Education and Research) director V Ramakrishnan and VSSC Space Physics Lab director Anil Bhardwaj.
Kerala State Young Scientist awardees Ravi Shankar L, Mahesh Hariharan and Vineeth C Nair will be honoured on the occasion.
Across the state, 222 institutions, including 67 schools, 79 colleges, three ITIs, five polytechnics, eight university departments, five R&D institutions and 51 NGOs have been selected by the KSCSTE to spread awareness about the importance of Science Day among students, academia and the general public.
