'Balyakalasakhi' Wins Adoor Bhasi Award

‘Balyakalasakhi’ directed by Pramod Payyannur, based on the novel of the same name by Vaikom Muhammad Basheer, was declared the best film in the Adoor Bhasi Film Awards 2014 announced here on Friday.

‘Balyakalasakhi’ won the award in the debutants awards category while Vinod Kumar was chosen as the best debutant director for the film ‘Test Paper’, a jury chaired by G S Pradeep said at the Press Club here. 

Riyaz M T was selected the best debutant actor for his role in ‘Flat No 4B’ while Laya bagged the debutant actress award in ‘Kutteem Kolum’. K Ambadi was the best debutant lyricist.

“A number of good movies were overlooked because they were not submitted for the competition,” said the jury and the Adoor Bhasi Cultural Forum.

In the 6th Adoor Bhasi Television Awards, J B Junction presented by John Brittas aired in Kairali TV was adjudged the best television show while George Pulikkan’s ‘Dhim Tharikida Thom’ in Mathrubhumi News was declared the best satire.

Nammal Thammil of Asianet was the best talk show while Suresh Babu K G of Doordarshan won the best anchor award. Reji Sain was the best director of a children’s show for ‘Thulli’ aired in Media One.

Meanwhile, K Radhakrishnan was selected for the Adoor Bhasi Excellence Award in health category while Martin Sebastian, producer of ‘Moonamathoral’, the first digital film in Malayalam,  and Varghese Moolan would be awarded for their contributions to cinema and social work respectively.

The awards will be distributed in a function to be held at the VJT Hall here on May 20. The 2nd Dance Fest, a solo dance competition, will also be held to commemorate Adoor Bhasi in the city from May 14 to 20.
