Asan Birth Anniversary Celebrations

The 142nd Kumaranasan birth anniversary celebrations to be organised by the Asan Memorial Association will be held on Monday and Tuesday at Kayikkara Asan Samarakabhoomi.

The Asan prize instituted by the association for young poets would be presented to Joy Thamalam during the function.

He was selected for the award for the poetry collection ‘Ente Kavitha’.

The award carries a purse of Rs 15,000.

Excise Minister K Babu will inaugurate the celebrations on Monday. V Sasi MLA, Asan Memorial Association governing body secretary S Shashankan, District Panchayat president Ansajitha Russell and governing body member D Sreekrishnan will attend.

Various literary competitions will be conducted as part of the celebrations.

The valedictory function on Tuesday will be inaugurated by Cultural Affairs Minister K C Joseph at 5 pm.

B Sathyan MLA, District Collector Biju Prabhakar, V Cheriyanoor Jayaprakash, S Sudhish, Purogamana Kalasahithya Sangham general secretary V N Murali, Pirapancode Murali, D Bhuvanendran and Asan Memorial Association governing body treasurer C V Surendran will also attend.

The two-day celebrations will be forerunner to the Asan World Prize literary fest which will be conducted next year, association members told a press meet here. As part of the literary fest, a state-level arts fest will be conducted in December, they added.
