The Local Fund Audit Department will be renamed as Kerala State Audit Department, said Finance Minister K M Mani here on Tuesday. Inaugurating the renovated building of the Local Fund Audit Department and the 72nd annual celebrations of the department, he said that the department was playing a pivotal role in auditing in the state.
‘’The department audits as many as 8,863 organisations, including local bodies and Devaswom Board. The responsibility taken up by the department is enormous,’’ the Finance Minister said.
Mani said that after the Accountant General, the responsibility falls on the shoulders of the Local Fund Audit Department.
“The State Govt intends to bring out a detailed manual on audited organisations. The government will also take steps to update audit laws and strengthen the department by adding more employees,’’ he said.
Varkala Kahar MLA presided over the function in which the inauguration of the computerisation of the department was done by Finance Department Additional Chief Secretary V Somasundaran.
