THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Koliyakkode paddyfield is all set for cultivation again. It was the same team, a group of engineering students, which had made the paddyfield fit for cultivation after a gap of two years, which is behind the cultivation this time too.
The volunteers of National Service Scheme of the Sree Chithira Tirunal Engineering College Pappanamcode with the help of those who love farming had formed ‘Kathir’, a paddy conservation society, to restart paddy cultivation at Koliyakkode. The society also had the support of Koliyakkode Padasekhara Samithi. The cultivation is being done in 7.5 hectares of land. ‘’The steps for cultivation in the field like ploughing of land has started’’ said NSS programme officer Arun M.
Earlier, the cultivation at Koliyakkode was discontinued due to lack of irrigation facilities and also owing to the disposal of waste in the field.
