THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : As part of International Biodiversity Day on Thursday, the Social Forestry wing of the Forest Department will be launching ‘BioBlitz’, an initiative to spread awareness among the public about  biodiversity in the state.

The campaign will offer citizens an opportunity to learn about the array of biodiversity in urban and unique environments. In each district, a ‘Bioblitz’ will be organised in an urban environment or unique environment

As part of ‘BioBlitz’, teams of volunteer scientists, families, students, teachers and other community members will work together to find and identify as many species of plants, animals, microbes, fungi and other organisms in a given area. Usually the time period will be 24 hours. But for Thursday’s initiative, the time period has been limited to some hours.

The APCCF/CCF of each region will provide leadership and implementation will be done with active assistance of the ACFs in the region. In each district the ACF (SF) will conduct the programme in collaboration with NGO partners.
