15-yr-old Attacked for Refusing Proposal

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 15-year-old girl was hit with stone by a youth for refusing his proposal at Aryancode on Saturday evening.

The girl suffered serious injuries on her forehead, hand and back and was hospitalised by local people.

Aryancode Police said the incident occurred near the Ottasekharamangalam Temple when the girl was returning home after offering prayers.

“The girl, along with a friend, were waylaid by the accused. When she tried to move forward, he attacked her. He escaped before the local people rushed to her help,” Aryancode Sub Inspector M Maheen said.

The accused, identified as Vishnu, 22, of ‘Plavilaputhen Veedu’, Balaramapuram, was arrested from his residence later.

According to the police, the girl was known to Vishnu as her brother had married from his neighbourhood.

“He had proposed to her twice earlier but she rejected his advances. Her family had warned him in this regard,” the Sub Inspector said.

The girl reportedly belongs to a poor family.

She was discharged from the Neyyattinkara Taluk Hospital on Sunday morning.

Vishnu, who was earlier a helper at a private hospital in the city, is now working as a painter.

The police said he had no criminal records.

The accused was produced in court and remanded.

The investigation team included GSI Ajayan, civil police officers Lal and Manikandan.
