THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Spic Macay is organising  ‘Layam-2015’, the Kerala State convention, from February 6 to 8 at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram.

The organisation is co-hosting the three-day convention with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER).

The Kerala State convention is Spic Macay’s first initiative in the state. The aim of the event is to make the youth aware of the country’s cultural heritage and to make them appreciate it.

Leading musicians and artistes of repute such as  renowned flautist Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia, violinist Prof T N Krishnan, Bharatanatyam danseuse Malavika Sarukkai and others will be performing as part of the event. The artistes will also be interacting with the youth through various sessions and workshops during the convention. “We have a rich cultural heritage especially in the field of dance and music. The state convention is our effort to create an awareness among the youth on the subject and help them interact with renowned artistes.

There is a need to spread awareness of our various art forms and yoga among the youth who are mostly involved in the latest technological advancements. Over 2000 classical music and dance and folk programmes, yoga, traditional painting and other art forms are being conducted annually across the country as a part of this,” said Dr Kiran Seth, founder, Spic Macay, in a statement.
