Faces of Neglect

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: They are some nameless faces that turn invisible with time. They sit in scorching sun braving the heat and dust of city’s busiest road. Most of the news-mongers who celebrate mainstream protests turn a blind eye to the woes of these women who sit in front of Secretariat demanding justice. Express photographer B P Deepu tries to frame their continuing struggle.

1) Shakuntala and her 7-year-old daughter Amalu had to flee from their home following a goon attack and they are unable to enter their own house premises till date. The mother-daughter duo has been on the road for 416 days

2) 46-year-old Gladys is an auto driver from Nanthancode who demands proper police intervention in the case of her missing children. Her protest turns 322 days today

3) 63-year-old Sulochana owns one cent of land at Muttada, but the Taluk authorities are not allowing her to build a home there. She has been waiting for justice in front of the Secretariat for 144 days now.

4) Omana, 60, has been protesting for 568 days today. She started off with a group of others from Chengara land agitation, but her co-protesters left one after another leaving her alone

5) Thresya, 55, from Nedumangad has completed 54 days in front of Secretariat following an unfair court case
