You may be familiar with hoops, studs and danglings, but what about  ear cuffs, the new vocabulary in jewellery? Well, an ear cuff is almost like a regular earring, but it wraps around your entire ear.

Ear cuffs made their entry in the 90s and were missing for sometime but are in vogue now and the celebs are flaunting them in style.

It gives you the edgy and quirky look and the advantage is that it goes well with all types of styles, including ethnic and traditional ones, and they accent and adorn any outfit you wish to jazz up.

However, the bonus part is that for many ear cuffs, there is absolutely no need to pierce your ears.

There are various types and styles and for those who really want to flaunt it, there are the ear chain ones.

One can even throw other earrings into the mix and with the right amount of make-up (read minimalist) and a perfect hairdo you are ready to rock.

Those who prefer the dazzle and glitter can opt for gemstone-encrusted ones while those who like it simple can go for simple metal clip-on ear cuff like thread-thin cuffs that are barely there.

For people who love drama, there are huge ones that cover almost the entire ear (cue Huma Qureshi’s  Atelier Mon ear cuff at an award function). The wrap-around cuff is a more elaborate cousin of the ear cuff. Though it comes in various styles, the main general rule is that it should wrap the behind of the ears. Then there is the band cuff. The advantage is that there are many loops and rings and you don’t even have to pierce your ears. Ear jackets are another. They are so casual in the front while behind the ears it is so much cool and quirky.

However, the rule number one while wearing a  ear cuff is that don’t let your hair play the spoilsport. You can keep your hair open, but it should never cover your ears.

And, when you are wearing those big chunky ones, you can part your hairs on one side and the other one can be hidden by your tresses. The rule number two is minimum make-up and accessories. The mantra is never overdo it.
