SBT Suvarna Mudra Honour for Kavalam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:Kavalam Narayana Panikker has been selected for the SBT Suvarna Mudra, an award instituted by the State Bank of Travancore, for his valuable contributions to Malayalam language, literature and culture.

Apart from this, eminent bureaucrat Raju Narayana Swamy has won a special award for his contributions to Popular Science in Children’s Literature Category.

‘Insilica’ of L Thomas Kutty and ‘Nilavinte Nakahangal’ by Vinu Abraham bagged awards in  poetry and short story collections respectively.  The Children’s Literature award went to John Samuel for his book ‘Viswothara Nadodikkathakal’.

‘Gabriel Garcia Marquez by Munjinad Padmakumar has been selected for the award in Literary Criticism.

The media award for Human Interest Story in Malayalam Dailies goes to the feature ‘Vandhyatha Nivaranathinte Kaanappurangal’  by K Sreekumar of Mathrubhumi.

P Krishnanunni, A Nujum and C R Rajagopalan were the jury in the Poetry section. The Short Story jury include Chandramathi, B Murali and  Mini Prasad.  Nedumudi Harikumar,  M Rajeev Kumar and Mini valued the entries of ChildrenÂ’s Literature.

Ajithan Menoth, V G Thampy and Muhammed Ahammed were the jury members in Literary Criticism. The award winners in all the six categories will receive a cash prize of `25,000 each and a  memento designed by artist Bhattathiri.

The awards will be distributed in the ‘SBT Malayala Sammelanam’.
