In a statement, Senkumar said the road accidents involving the family members while travelling in a car or a cab during the wee hours were increasing like never before.

He said the contributory factors for the rise in accidents like never before are due to driver fatigue and poor light.

“It is learnt that many vehicles taking the relatives to pick and drop at the airports had more possibility of meeting with accidents. Infact, the figures and the reports said so. The inexperience of the drivers working at night is being cited as the major reason. Hence, the people travelling in car other than the driver should ensure that the driver is not drowsy or tired. If the passengers and driver feel sleepy, then they should park the car immediately on the roadside and sleep for sometime and continue with the journey, Senkumar said in a statement.

He said the vehicles should brighten the headlight while overtaking other vehicle and dim the headlight when the vehicles coming from the opposite side.
