Projects Worth Rs 160 crore to Em-Power Dist

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The District Electricity Committee meeting convened here on Saturday has decided to submit projects worth Rs 160 crore to the Central Government under the Pandit Deendayal Upadhaya Grama Jyothi Yojana and Integrated Power Development Scheme.

Attingal MP A Sampath, who is also the chairman of the District Electricity  Committee, said the projects are envisaged to achieve total electrification in rural and areas, 24-hour power supply and reduction in transmission loss.

The Integrated Power Development scheme is  targeted for the urban areas.

The MP said the projects worth Rs 28 crore have been earmarked for the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, Rs 26 crore for the Varkala municipality, Rs 7 crore for Attingal municipality, Rs 13 crore for Nedumangad municipality and Rs 22 crore for Neyyattinkara municipality. For providing service connection to the BPL families Rs 2.6 crore-worth project has been submitted to the Central Government.

For the rural areas in the district, an outlay to the tune of Rs 85 crore has been earmarked under the Grama Jyothi  Scheme.
