Onam Melas Round the Corner

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Onam metro fairs organised by the Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) will be launched in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam on August 10 and will continue till August 27.

 The fairs will begin in Kottayam, Kollam, Thrissur and Kozhikode on August 17. Onam town fairs will be held in ten main towns while Onam markets will be hosted at 19 other prominent places across the state. Supplyco is offering a better deal for the consumers this Onam as part of its market intervention programmes. On account of the festival season, it has cut prices on various commodities including coconut oil, sugar, Matta rice and tea. Subsidised coconut oil will be available at Rs 110 a litre (it stood at Rs 130), while sugar price has decreased from Rs 24 to Rs 22 per kilo. The price of Matta rice has been slashed to Rs 24 from Rs 25 while Sabari Supreme tea will be available at Rs 131 from Rs 142, per kilo.

 All Supplyco outlets will have special Onam fairs for five days from August 23, while mini-fairs are planned in 45 panchayats which lack Supplyco outlets. All Maveli stores will function from 9.30 am to 7 pm from August 23 to 27.
