THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A retired  Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) was found dead at his residence at Maranalloor on Saturday. The deceased is A Surendran, 60, a resident of Maranalloor. The Maranalloor police have registered a case of unnatural death.

According to the police, Surendran might have committed suicide as a bottle of poison was found near his body. The hospital authorities also confirmed the same. A suicide note was also found.

“Prima facie, it is a case of suicide as he had some financial issues. It is clearly mentioned in the suicide note that Surendran had borrowed around `3.5 lakh from two persons  involved in active money lending in 2010. Later, the amount compounded to around `13.5 lakh with interest. Surendran also mentioned that retired DySp Vijayan of Neyyattinkara  had played the role of mediator in the said financial transaction.

The suicide note will be handed over to the Forensic Department on Monday. The body was handed over to the family after an autopsy,” said Maranalloor Sub-Inspector. Surendran is survived by wife, a son and a daughter. He had retired as an ASI from the Medical College police station.
