An Active Year Ahead for Channankara Government LP School

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  In an effort to inculcate better values, the Channankara Government LP School is launching a number of school-related activities it has initiated for the students on Monday.

A medicinal garden will be launched at the school on Monday. Says Hajisa H, school HM, “ We have initiated the project with just four or five medicinal plants, in order to give students an idea about the different varieties. We plan to grow more medicinal plants in the course of time.”

Apart from this, the school students will each be given packets containing vegetable seeds and saplings. The venture will be inaugurated by Kadinamkulam Grama Panchayat Educaion standing committee chairperson Naseema Kabeer. “ These days, newspapers are filled with reports about pesticides and chemicals being sprayed on vegetables. Through this endeavour, we want to ensure that our students have all the vegetables they need from their own backyard,” states the Head Mistress.

To encourage the students further, they will be provided with a notebook where they can put down their observation and weekly report- for instance, how tall the plant has grown and how much it has been watered.

In an effort to create awareness among students on the importance of abiding by traffic rules and regulations, the school faculty is starting a project titled ‘Symbolic Traffic’ to expose the students to lessons on traffic awareness every day along with the usual studies.

A small book prepared by the senior students on agriculture and its basics will also be released at the event. A survey project by senior students on the dumping of waste on Parvathi Puthanar will be launched at the event.

The school will also be inaugurating the activities of the school clubs for the academic year. A urinal block, with six urinals for girls, sanctioned by the DDE, will also be inaugurated by Pothencode Block Panchayat president Vetrode Vijayan.

A commemorative meet will be organised in memory of former President late A P J Abdul Kalam.
