THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As part of its Onam celebrations, Sahithy, in association with Lions Club International Zone 11, Region 3, Sector 5, Dist 318A and Gandhi Darsan Samithi, has launched ‘Vara Utsav 2015’, a painting competition for school students.

The inaugural ceremony of the event was marked by a painting competition which was held on August 15 at the ICUF centre. Cartoonist and Sahithy convenor Haku inaugurated the event. Approximately 50 students participated from MGM Public School, Kuzhivila, Sarvodaya, Arya Central School, Loyola School, Sreekaryam and St Thomas School and a few more in the region.

Painting competitions will also be held at various city schools as part of the inter-school competition which will be conducted soon in the city.

According to Haku, the paintings by selected winners of the inter-school competition along with other cartoonists in the city will be exhibited soon.

Separate competitions will be held for KG, LP, UPand HS students, at the respective schools. Two to three students with the best paintings will be selected from each school, and the paintings will be exhibited from August 23 to 29 at the ICUF Centre, General hospital Junction, in the city.

The event is being held in connection with Onam Tourism Week celebrations by the Tourism Department.
