THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  A 32-year-old man was stabbed to death, allegedly by his cousin, at Mangalapuram near Kazhakuttam in the wee hours of Wednesday. The deceased is Saiju, a resident of Murukkumpuzha.

His wife Suja also sustained serious injuries while she tried to resist the attack on Saiju.

Sreeraj, Shaiju’s cousin, has been arrested by the Mangalapuram police in connection with the incident.

Police said that Sreeraj was one of the employees of Saiju, who was doing decoration business for wedding and other public functions.

“On Tuesday evening, Sreeraj entered into a heated argument with Saiju over the remuneration and Onam bonus. Sreeraj reportedly demanded a high amount as bonus and Saiju was not ready to give that amount.  Sreeraj barged into the house, around 1.30 am,  woke Saiju up and raised the issue again.

Apparently, Sreeraj took a knife and stabbed him on his neck and stomach multiple times. Hearing Saiju’s screams, his wife Suja woke up and resisted Sreeraj. But she was also injured in the attack. Subsequently, Sreeraj fled the scene. He was nabbed later in the day. He will be produced before the magistrate on Thursday”, a police official said.

The neighbours who reached the spot took the couple to a nearby hospital. Saiju was declared ‘brought dead’ by the hospital authorities as he suffered deep cuts on his stomach and neck.
