Dist Collector Denies Corruption Charges

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: District Collector Biju Prabhakar has refuted the allegations against ‘Punarjani,’ a summer vacation camp organised by the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare (KSCCW), stating that some people who were against the ongoing changes brought in the council were behind such allegations.

The allegations against the collector were with regard to the Rs 20 lakh spent as part of the summer camp held from April 14 to May 24. “The KSCCW has spent less than Rs 20 lakh for the camp. The teachers who participated in the camp were given remuneration according to the NCERT guidelines. It was the Kudumbashree that provided food for the children,” Prabhakar said.

He alleged that the charges against him were only because he had taken strong action against some who were amassing crores of rupees in the name of adoption.
