A Tribute in Charcoal to APJ

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Over 20 charcoal drawings and portraits featuring Dr A P J Abdul Kalam were exhibited at the Press Club in the city on Friday. The drawings were displayed as part of Kalam Yuga 2015, a drawing exhibition organised as a tribute to the former president who passed away recently.

The drawings, all done in charcoal, are by Arunlal, a city-based software engineer and self-trained painter. The main attraction among the drawings was the one which was personally signed by the missile man.

“I was actually intending to gift the particular drawing to Dr Kalam when I met him at Pathanapuram Gandhi Bhavan in May. Since he could not take the drawing along, he signed the drawing and returned it,” said Arunlal.  Apart from the drawing personally signed by Dr Kalam, the other works were done recently. While one of the drawings was completed using ear buds, another was a drawing completed using his inspirational quotes. While some featured Dr Kalam from real life photographs including two rare pictures from his childhood, many have been adapted from cartoons. P Vijayan IPS, DIG police department, Kerala, inaugurated the one-day exhibition at 10 am on Friday.
