CET Mishap: Accused Remanded in Judicial Custody

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Judicial Magistrate Court here remanded Baiju K Balakrishnan, the prime accused in the CET accident death case, in judicial custody till September 4.  Baiju, who was identified as the driver of the jeep that mowed down the student Thasni Basheer on the college campus during Onam celebrations, had surrendered before the police on Sunday.

He was charged under sections of unlawful assembly, culpable homicide not amounting to murder and destruction of evidence. 

The police also filed a custody application before the court as the accused had to be taken to the college for collection of evidence as part of further investigation. The sale agreement of the jeep  involved in the accident and Baiju’s driving licence needed to be seized. He had told the police that the sale agreement was in his friend’s house and the driving licence in his hostel room. The custodial application may be heard on Tuesday.
