THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) has asked the Higher Education Department Secretary to consider the demand for better salary in the self-financing colleges functioning directly under universities.

There are such institutions under Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi, Kozhikode and Kannur Universities.

The complaint states that the salary of an employee at a self-financing institution is not on a par with other institutions. The teachers in such institutions earn Rs 17,000, while sweepers earn Rs 6,000 every month.
