Pageantry: Traffic Restrictions Today

Elaborate security arrangements will also be in place, say City Police officials

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Traffic restrictions will be in place in the city from 1 pm on Monday in view of the pageantry marking the end of the Onam week celebrations. Vehicle movement and parking on MG Road will also be not allowed.

An official statement by the City Police said that vehicles from MC Road to Thampanoor or East Fort should take the Mannanthala- Kudapanakkunnu- Peroorkada-Pippinmoodu-Sasthamangalam- Edapazhanji- Thycaud- Flyover stretch. Those coming from NH should take the Ulloor-Medical College Junction- Kannammoola- General Hospital Junction-Underpass- Bakery Junction- Flyover- Panavila stretch.

Vehicles coming from Nedumangad should ply on the Peroorkada-Pippinmoodu- Sasthamangalam- Edapazhanji-Sree Moolam Club- Vazhuthacaud- Xanadu- Panavila stretch.

Traffic from Thampanoor to NH should take the Bakery Junction Flyover- Underpass- General Hospital- Pettah- Kannammoola- Medical College - Ulloor route.

Vehicles from Thiruvallom should take a deviation from Attakulangara- Killippalam- Choorakkattupalayam- Thampanoor route.

Vehicles from East Fort to Peroorkada should take Attakulangara- Killippalam- Thampanoor- Flyover- Mettukada- Xanadu- Edapazhinji -Sasthamangalam-Pippinmoodu route.

Meanwhile, vehicles proceeding to Pettah from East Fort should take Vettimurichukotta- Vazhappilly- Mithrananadapuram- SP Fort- Kaithamukku- Uppidamoodu- Vanchiyoor and Pattoor.

Parking will not be allowed on the main roads at Kowdiar, Vellayambalam, Palayam, Thampanoor, AKG Centre and Spencer Junction.  It is allowed on the campuses of Government Sanskrit College, University College, University office, Putharikandam Maidan and one side of the Asan Square - General Hospital Road, PMG - Law College Road, Museum- Nandavanam road, Vellayambalam - Sasthamangalam Road and Enchakkal - Kovalam Bypass Road, Poojappura LBS compound, Tagore Theatre premises, St Joseph’ Higher Secondary School, Olympic Association Hall premises, LMS compound, Govt Arts College premises,  Music College premises, SMV School, Attakulangara Central School, Fort High School, Attukal Devi Temple parking ground and Putharikandam ground.

Security Arrangements

Elaborate security arrangements will be in place in the city in view of the Onam cultural procession. An official press statement issued by the City Police said that 1,750 police personnel will be deployed across the city for hassle-free viewing of procession. From Kowdiar to East Fort, 20 routes have been classified by the police and each route would be led by an Assistant Commissioner. An additional 50 digital cameras and 75 CCTV will be installed, apart from the existing 240 cameras. The major junctions in the city will be under CCTV surveillance. The police control room and the special control room at Kanakakkunnu have been entrusted with the task of round-the-clock surveillance. Over hundred Shadow Police personnel, including women, will also be deployed.

For viewing the procession, the public should stand on the footpath and are restricted from entering the road. In case of any emergency, complaints or suggestions can be informed over 9497987001, 9497987002, 0471-2331843, 2321399, 100 or 1090.
