CM Should Quit for Fair Probe, Says Kerala CPM

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy should immediately resign in the wake of the new revelations in the solar scandal, the CPM has demanded.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Chief Minister Oommen Chandy should immediately resign in the wake of the new revelations in the solar scandal, the CPM has demanded. A case should be registered in the light of the new revelations and an investigation should be launched, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said.

He added that the Judicial Commission can conduct an effective and fair probe only if Chief Minister Oommen Chandy steps down.

Referring to the remark by Labour Minister Shibu Baby John that there’s a conspiracy behind the allegations, Kodiyeri urged the government to find out who hatched the conspiracy against the Chief Minister and other ministers. “He said it was no one from the opposition. Then who hatched the conspiracy? It should be probed and this angle should be taken into consideration,” he said.

As per the allegations, solar scam accused Biju Radhakrishnan has handed over `5.5 crore to the CM. The source of that money should also be probed, he said. “Earlier, when the issue of a closed door meeting with Biju Radhakrishnan came up in the Assembly, the CM did not mention anything about another person being there at the meeting. Now a new witness has been introduced, which is completely mysterious,” he pointed out.

When a convict under judicial custody makes such a sweeping allegation against the Chief Minister of the state, there must be something in it. Otherwise, who will dare to make such charges in the first place?, he said.  “No other CM has ever faced such allegations,” He  also urged the government to initiate action  to confiscate the CD containing the evidence.

The CPM state secretariat in a statement pointed out that Chandy continuing in power is an insult to the entire state. “Evidence pertaining to the CM’s role in the financial transactions in connection with solar scandal have come out earlier itself. It’s in this scenario that the LDF had demanded that the CM should resign and face judicial probe,” the statement added.
