THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 65-year-old woman was arrested by Neyyar dam police in the early hours of Thursday after she was allegedly found brewing country liquor among the bushes near Neyyar dam. The accomplice present at the spot escaped after sensing police presence. The arrested woman has been identified as Sarada, a resident of Chembur near Neyyar dam.

According to the police, she was taken into the custody following a raid conducted by a team of police based on a tip-off. When we rushed to the spot, we found that the accused and her accomplice were engaged in fermenting arrack. Soon, the assistant ran way and jumped off the Neyyar river. Sarada is a habitual offender and she was caught earlier several times for selling arrack. We also seized the materials using for fermentation and wash. The accused will be produced before the magistrate on Thursday and will be remanded in judicial custody, police said.
