THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Earlier, things had started appearing rosy, when they admitted their child to an institution where such students get special attention. He improved quite a lot in one year. But everything went kaput, when the management decided to make non-inclusive education a must for everyone. There were three teachers at the institution who knew that such education would not work for children with special needs. Again, their search started for a good centre. Alas! They couldn’t fine one. It was then that one of the teachers suggested to them to start one.

“There were parents of five such children who were ready to help us. They were ready to support at the same time, they want us to take this forward. Everything was put in. We got a building near Red Cross building near General Hospital. But, we were neck deep in debt. However, after one month, we got a new building at Kochar Road in Sasthamangalam.  But, soon students swelled. Everything changed for the better,” said Sandhya with gratitude.

From just five, the strength became 19 and currently there are forty students. Many enquiries are pending. In just one year, the three-storeyed building was overflowing with students. A consortium of companies of Technopark called G-Tech is all set to help them in creating awareness about dyslexia. “IMA is also a huge support,” added Prajin.

Sandhya and Prajin are not ready to rest on their laurels. Now they are all set to start an International Dyslexia Research Centre.
