One of the damaged CT scan machines at the Government Medical College here is functioning again and this has come as a big relief to the the patients who otherwise had to shell extra money at the private scan centres.

The second CT scan will become operational within two days, the Medical College officials said. The two CT Scans got damaged after they functioned continuously following the Paravoor fireworks tragedy. As many as 675 scans a day were done using the machines during these days.

The officials said that the delay in getting certain spare parts for the machines delayed the repairs. They said that the other CT Scan machine will soon become functional once the spare parts become available.

It has been estimated that as many as 400 patients come for CT Scan daily. However, only 150 CT Scans can be taken on a day using the two CT Scan machines available now. Apart from the two CT scan machines, steps are also being taken to install one more machine. The CT Scan here is of great help to the patients since the rate of scan here is nominal compared to the private scan centres.   Though about 150 patients are referred for MRI scan a day, only 20 scans can be done since  just one machine is available. In the case of Ultra Sound scan, 150 scans only can be done with the five machines.
