Rights panel pulls up Thiruvananthapuram civic body for inaction

The State Human Rights Commission has pulled up the secretary of  Thiruvananthapuram Corporation for not following the orders issued by it.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Human Rights Commission has pulled up the secretary of  Thiruvananthapuram Corporation for not following the orders issued by it.

The observation came in connection with a case registered by the Commission on a petition filed by Anil Kumar, a resident of Poojappura.   Anil Kumar had complained to the Corporation after waste water overflowed from a drain next to his house and into his compound. He approached the Commission after the Corporation ignored his plea.

The Commission, on May 2, 2014 ordered the Corporation to rebuild the drain.  When the Corporation failed to act, the Commission again issued orders in this regard on September 15, 2015.

However, no action has been taken two years after the first order and ten months after the second one, the Commission noted. Blaming the secretary for serious lapses, the Commission has now sought an action-taken report from the officer within three weeks.
